Inside Creedmoor State Hospital’s Building 25
Creedmoor Psychiatric Center’s Building 25 remained an
active facility in Queens Village until some time in the 1970s, when budget
cuts and a growing emphasis on deinstitutionalization forced its closure. AbandonedNYC
highlights some of the more grotesque effects of 40 years of neglect.
A couple of armchairs have
gotten plenty of use by urban explorers, who appear to have covered the
chair on the left with fake blood.
Tables stacked in the third-floor cafeteria of Building 25.
Guano accumulated in gray mounds
underneath the pipes of sprinkler systems where birds have come to
roost. According to AbandonedNYC, this bathroom holds the largest volume
of fecal matter in the facility.
Instead of mirrors, the bathroom walls hold metallic sheets that patients could use as weapons.
